FSH FEM6600DM Standard Double Monitored Magnetic Door Lock – 580kg per Door

The FSH FEM6600DM Magnetic Door Lock is a standard-size, double electromagnetic lock designed for commercial access control installations. It combines two magnetic locks in one surface-mounted housing, providing up to 580kg holding strength per door leaf.

This fully monitored model includes Lock Status Sensors (LSS), Door Status Sensors (DSS) and red-green status LEDs. These features allow compatible access control systems to monitor the condition of both doors and confirm whether the magnetic locks are correctly engaged.

Field-selectable 12V or 24V DC operation provides flexibility when integrating the FEM6600DM with access controllers, intercoms, keypads, fob readers, card readers, emergency release devices and other commercial security equipment.

Key Features of the FSH FEM6600DM

  • Standard double electromagnetic lock for paired doors
  • Up to 580kg holding strength per magnetic lock
  • Combined holding capacity of up to 1160kg across both correctly aligned door leaves
  • Monitored model with LSS and DSS outputs
  • Red-green bi-colour status LED for each monitored lock
  • Fail-safe operation releases the doors when power is removed
  • Field-selectable 12V or 24V DC input
  • Built-in MOV surge protection
  • No residual magnetism after power is removed
  • Surface-mounted design for professional installation
  • Satin anodised aluminium housing
  • Two armature plates for double-door applications
  • Fire rated for up to two hours on compatible tested doorsets
  • Five-year mechanical and electronic warranty

Monitoring for Both Door Leaves

The FEM6600DM provides monitoring for both sides of the double-door opening. Monitoring outputs can be connected to a compatible access control panel, security system or building management platform.

  • LSS – Lock Status Sensor: indicates whether each magnet and armature plate are correctly engaged
  • DSS – Door Status Sensor: provides feedback about whether each door leaf is open or closed
  • Red-green LEDs: provide a visual indication of the lock status

These monitoring functions can help identify a door that has been left open, an incorrectly aligned armature plate or a magnetic lock that has not secured correctly after access has been granted.

Fail-Safe Double-Door Operation

The FSH FEM6600DM operates as a fail-safe or Power To Lock electromagnetic lock. Both doors remain secured while power is supplied and release when power is removed.

This operating method is commonly used on access-controlled commercial entrances where the doors must release following an authorised access request, request-to-exit signal, emergency release activation or loss of power.

Emergency egress, fire-system integration and backup power requirements must be considered as part of the complete access control design.

Holding Strength for Double Doors

The FEM6600DM contains two magnetic locks, with each lock providing up to 580kg holding strength when correctly installed and aligned.

This provides locking for both door leaves independently. The quoted holding force applies to each magnet and should not be interpreted as 1160kg acting on a single door leaf.

Dual-Voltage Power Requirements

The FEM6600DM can operate from either 12V or 24V DC. Because it contains two magnetic locks, the access control power supply must be sized for the combined electrical load.

  • 12V DC: approximately 500mA per lock or 1A combined
  • 24V DC: approximately 250mA per lock or 500mA combined

Additional allowance must be made where the same power supply also operates an access controller, card reader, keypad, intercom, emergency release device or other equipment.

No Residual Magnetism

The FEM6600DM is designed without residual magnetism. When power is removed, the armature plates release cleanly rather than remaining lightly attached to the magnets.

This provides smoother door operation, reduces unnecessary stress on the hardware and helps prevent delayed release after access has been granted.

Mounting and Door Compatibility

The FEM6600DM is designed for surface mounting across a compatible double-door opening. The required mounting arrangement depends on the door construction, frame profile and opening direction.

Compatible L, Z or other mounting brackets may be required for inswing doors or installations where the magnets and armature plates cannot be correctly aligned using the standard mounting arrangement.

Fire-Rated Installation Note

The FEM6600 Series has been tested for use on compatible fire door assemblies for up to two hours in accordance with AS 1905.1:2015. The final fire rating depends on the approved doorset, mounting method, hardware configuration and installation.

Fire-door suitability should be confirmed with the doorset supplier, certifier or manufacturer before installation.

Professional Installation Recommended

The FEM6600DM should be installed by a qualified security, access control or locksmith professional. Correct alignment between both magnets and armature plates is essential for achieving the specified holding strength and reliable monitoring.

The installer should confirm the power supply capacity, cable size, voltage selection, access controller, monitoring inputs, emergency release devices and applicable building and egress requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions Magnetic Door Locks

Magnetic door locks work by using a magnet to hold the door closed. The magnet is typically located on the door frame, and the metal armature is located on the door. When the door is closed, the magnet and armature come together and create a strong magnetic force that holds the door in place.

  • Monitored magnetic door locks are connected to a central security system. This allows the system to monitor the status of the door and to generate an alarm if the door is opened without authorization.
  • Monitored magnetic door locks are more secure than non-monitored door locks, but they are also more expensive.
  • Non-monitored magnetic door locks are not connected to a central security system. This means that they cannot generate an alarm if the door is opened without authorization.
  • Non-monitored magnetic door locks are less secure than monitored door locks, but they are also less expensive.
  • Magnetic door locks are used in a variety of commercial and industrial settings, including:
  • Office buildings
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Retail stores
  • Warehouses
  • Factories

Magnetic door locks are very difficult to pick or force open, making them a good choice for securing valuable assets. However, it is important to note that no lock is completely foolproof, and a determined thief may still be able to break into a door that is secured with a magnetic lock.

Installing a magnetic door lock is a relatively simple process that can be completed in a few minutes. The first step is to mark the location of the magnet and armature on the door frame and door. Once the locations are marked, the magnet and armature can be attached using the included screws.

If your magnetic door lock is not working properly, there are a few things you can check. First, make sure that the magnet and armature are properly aligned. If they are not, the lock will not be able to create a strong enough magnetic force to hold the door closed. Second, check the wiring to make sure that there are no loose or damaged connections. Finally, check the power supply to make sure that it is providing enough power to the lock.

  • Magnetic door locks are very secure. They are difficult to defeat, even by experienced burglars.
  • Magnetic door locks are very reliable. They are not subject to mechanical failure, like traditional door locks.
  • Magnetic door locks are very convenient. They can be opened with a key card, a key fob, or a password.
