Before selecting a keypad, identify the alarm control panel—not only the branding printed on the existing codepad. Hills Reliance systems have been produced across different generations, and similar-looking keypads may use different communication or programming requirements.

Useful information includes the control-panel model, the model number on the rear of the existing keypad, the number of zones, any expansion modules and whether the installation is being upgraded to Reliance XR or XRPro.

If the panel model is unknown, a licensed security technician can inspect the equipment before a replacement is ordered.

LED codepads use individual lights to show zone and system status. They are practical and familiar but provide less descriptive information than text-based displays.

LCD codepads provide clearer text prompts and system information, making daily operation and fault identification easier.

VoiceNav models add spoken guidance to support system operation and status identification.

Touchscreen codepads provide a modern visual interface. They can improve everyday usability, but they must be specifically supported by the installed panel.

A compatible replacement codepad may be suitable when the existing unit has a failed display, worn buttons or intermittent operation. An additional keypad can provide convenient control from another entry point, bedroom, office or separate alarm area.

Adding or replacing a keypad may require device addressing, enrolment, area assignment, user-access configuration and system testing. The number and type of keypads supported depends on the panel and current system design.

The codepad controls the alarm locally, but it does not automatically provide smartphone access. UltraSync+ app operation depends on a compatible Hills Reliance XR or XRPro control panel, an internet connection and correct system commissioning.

Codepad installation is not always a direct plug-in replacement. Power should be safely isolated before wiring changes are made, and the keypad bus, address, termination and programming must be checked for the installed system.
