Networking Cables for CCTV, Data & Business Networks

Networking cables play a crucial role in creating reliable connections between devices across homes, offices, CCTV systems and commercial networks. They help transmit data, video and network traffic between switches, routers, NVRs, access points, computers, monitors and security equipment.

This collection includes practical cable options such as category cables, commonly used for Ethernet networking, and HDMI cables, commonly used for connecting recorders, computers and media devices to displays.

Choosing the correct cable helps improve network stability, CCTV performance, image quality and long-term reliability across connected systems.

Category Cables for Ethernet Networks

Category cables, also known as Ethernet cables or network cables, are used to connect devices within a local area network. They are commonly used for routers, switches, patch panels, access points, computers, IP cameras and NVRs.

HDMI Cables for Monitors, Recorders & Displays

HDMI cables are used to transmit audio and video signals between devices such as CCTV recorders, monitors, televisions, projectors, media players and display screens.

In CCTV installations, HDMI cables are commonly used to connect an NVR or DVR to a monitor for live viewing, playback and system setup. They are also used in office, AV and home entertainment applications where high-definition video output is required.

Common Uses for Networking Cables

Networking cables are used across a wide range of residential, business and security installations where stable device connectivity is required.

• IP CCTV systems – Connect cameras to PoE switches, network switches and NVRs.
• Business networks – Connect workstations, printers, phones, switches and routers.
• Home networks – Improve wired connectivity for smart TVs, computers, gaming devices and access points.
• Wireless access points – Connect and power compatible access points using Ethernet and PoE.
• Network cabinets – Use patch leads and category cables to organise routers, switches and patch panels.
• CCTV monitors – Use HDMI cables to connect recorders to monitors for viewing and playback.
• Intercom and access control systems – Support selected IP-based security devices and networked entry systems.

How to Choose the Right Networking Cable

Choosing the right cable helps your network perform reliably and reduces the chance of faults, poor video quality or connection issues. Before ordering, consider the installation layout and the devices being connected.

• Choose the right cable category – Match Cat 5e, Cat 6, Cat 6a or Cat 7 to the required speed and installation type.
• Check cable distance – Longer cable runs may require higher-grade cabling or professional installation planning.
• Confirm PoE requirements – IP cameras and access points may require cable suitable for power and data transmission.
• Review the environment – Consider whether the cable is used indoors, in a cabinet, through walls or in areas with interference.
• Select suitable HDMI length – Match HDMI cable length to the display position and recorder location.
• Use quality connectors – Reliable terminations and patch leads are important for stable network performance.
• Allow for future upgrades – Choose cabling that can support future cameras, faster networking or extra devices.
