6 Easy Steps to change a security alarm battery

Step 1
Turn off the electrical supply to your system.

Step 2
If your alarm system is monitored, contact the control room to let them know you are going to change the backup battery. This helps prevent a dispatch while you’re working.

Step 3
Locate the battery inside the control panel. It’s commonly installed in a walk-in robe, cupboard, or wardrobe.

Step 4
Open the control panel box using the panel key (often left on top) or by removing screws. Your alarm may sound when opened—have your code ready to silence the system if needed.

Step 5
Disconnect the battery by removing the black and red leads from the terminals. Remove the old battery and dispose of it responsibly.

Step 6
Install the new battery using the same voltage and size as the original. Ensure polarity is correct: RED to RED and BLACK to BLACK. Close and lock the panel once complete.

Safety tip: Avoid touching terminals with metal tools. If you’re unsure, contact a licensed technician.
